I want to share with you a daily devotional that I read the other morning…
See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people. (NLT) -1 Thessalonians 5:15
When we get offended our first reaction is to return the offense and exact punishment. As a believer in Christ, we know better than to lash out in anger and return the hurt, although we do it in other ways. Don’t allow yourself to get sidetracked by focusing on payment for the offense; God will handle that. After all, there’s more important work to be done, such as showing them God’s love.
Just after hearing the verdict not to indict the officer in the Mike Brown case last night and watching the news with all of what was occurring in Ferguson, my mind immediately took me back to that scripture and note of mediation. It immediately brought me a sense of peace knowing that although my heart was hurting, it was “okay” that I didn’t want to lash out and hurt someone else right back, it was “okay” that I was okay with the decision that was made.
Why? Because God will handle that.
I am a black woman and I am proud of that, but we are ALL God’s people. I am not of this world, but because we live in it we must face the trials and tribulations that God has already said we would, BUT we must also trust in him in ALL things. Yes, stand up for what you believe in. Yes, do what’s right. Yes, fight for justice; but at the end of the day, know that God will handle that.
Peace and blessings to ALL of you.
