You ever heard the saying “If you want to hear God laugh, then tell him your plans?” Well, that’s exactly how I felt as I designed, created and launched this blog site. I planned exactly how I wanted it to look, feel and communicate, yet it seemed like everything was going wrong in the process. Or was it going right? Hmmmm. I had originally planned to post an extremely candid video blog, and I still intend to do so, but that might just have to wait. Instead, I had to ask myself, what should I show to my readers in my verrrryy first blog post to make them understand where I’m coming from? So here goes nothing — let’s take a walk down memory lane.
The picture on the left is me when I was maybe eleven or twelve years old and the picture on the right is actually from just a few days ago (at the age of 23). Yes, I may look different and I have grown from a young girl into a young woman, but reality of it all is that really– I am the same person.
Ten years have passed, yet the same things that affected me back then often still have a huge affect on me today. I would not just place my story into the category of “successful weight-loss” because truth is, there was never really a “happily ever after.” I am happy, yes, but life is not perfect and neither am I. You ever see those crazy, sometimes unrealistic ads on television? You know, the ones that are like, “I lost 50 lbs in 2 months with the help from (some crazy diet pill or workout video) and I couldn’t feel better.” – but completely ignoring the sides of the story that make the person actually seem human.
Don’t get me wrong, sometimes those things do work and to an extent I believe that the people feel healthier in many ways, but instead my ad would probably sound something like:
“Just like many people (especially the youth) today, I have always struggled with my weight, self-image and self confidence. I gained and lost weight extremely rapidly at a young age, and I am thankful for what I have gone through,–it takes a while to cherish such difficult times, but the things I have learned about myself, the ways I have challenged myself physically, mentally and spiritually have all molded me into the woman I am today. I’ll be honest when saying, I have probably tried all of those crazy diets, detoxes, etc., but I have found that it all boils down to making better choices for you.” –pretty long ad huh? And, trust me I still had a lot more to say.
As I sit here and write this very first blog post, I want to make a promise to you. I promise to share with you my many choices as well as to challenge you along the way. Let’s have fun with it! Even with all of the craziness going on with graduation right around the corner, getting ready for my study abroad trip to China (yes, China) and trying to secure a “big girl” job, I can’t help but to realize how very blessed I am that I even have a story to tell. So, I am going to tell it. I am going to share with you the choices I have made in life and those that I continue to make a long the way.
Remember, I still plan on posting the video, maybe one day soon, but until then, take a chance to learn more about me and what you can expect from future posts on this blog in the tab above. Welcome to LifewithBri. Enjoy! Feel free to comment and/or email me at email@example.com.
MY CHOICE: Create a blog to hopefully inspire, encourage and motivate through my testimony and life experiences. “We all have a story, why not tell it?”
