Does He Have A relationship with the Lord?
I know this seems like a silly question but in all seriousness, there are some people out there that are under the impression that they are Christians.

I know this may seem harsh but there should be some clarification when it comes to what a Christian actually is.
What is a Christian?
So a Christian is someone who gives up their life to follow Jesus. Christians believe that “God sent his only son, that whoever believes in him, shall not perish but have eternal life.” We believe that Jesus is the son of God and that he died on the cross to save us from our sins.
When you meet someone who has a relationship with the Lord, there are some characteristics that they should have.
What are those characteristics you may ask? They are called the fruits of the spirit.
If you don’t know what the fruits of the spirit are, today is your lucky day!
Fruits of the spirit
1. Love
Does he love the Lord and put Him first in his decisions? Does he follow the call of God in his life? Is he quick to anger? Does he try his best to love you the way God would?
These are some questions to consider. Now I want to say that no one will be perfect at all of these.
Everyone will always have something that needs to be worked on. The important thing to remember is that they should be actively trying to correct certain behaviors.
2. Joy
Does he have the Joy of the Lord? Meaning, when things get tough does he have faith and hope that the Lord is working all things out for the greater good? Does he have a positive outlook most of the time?
3. Peace
Does he have the Peace of Jesus? Jesus is the prince of peace so if you have Jesus you should have a presence of peace.
4. Patience
Is he patient with you when responding to messages or calls? Is he patient with you when you are trying to work on certain behaviors? Does he show grace when you fall short?
Now I don’t want to call my husband out or anything like that but… patience is one of his weaker characteristics as it is mine haha! Waiting in lines drives us both nuts because we are both very ADD .
Pateince is important when it comes to a relationship. Patience will be needed often when it comes to dating/marriage.

5. Kindness
Is he kind to you and others with his words? When he is talking about others, is he using kind and uplifting words?
It is very easy to gossip and very easy to complain about somebody when they’ve done something you don’t like.
Some of the things my husband does that I personally think are kind are things like; opening the doors for me, helping me carry stuff, talking to me with uplifting word, encouraging me etc…
6. Goodness
Does he want what’s best for you even if it’s something that goes against what he wants? Does he treat you well and respect you and your boundaries?
When you make decisions how does he react to them? Is he very possessive or jealous? These are things that you should avoid if this is something that consumes them.
7. Faithfulness
Is he faithful to the Lord? Is he practicing faithfulness with you? How is he around the opposite sex?
When he’s around the opposite sex does he have boundaries? Does he respect you around the opposite sex?
8. Gentleness
Is he gentle when he is talking to you? How does he treat you? How does he treat other people?
9. Self Control
Does he practice self-control, sexual abstinence, abstinence from alcohol/substances?

Language
How is his language? Is he using foul and unkind words?
As I said before, no one is going to be the best at all of these. But it matters if they try their best to correct certain behaviors to honor the Lord.

Humility
When he talks about himself, is he humble? Does he know where and when he falls short? Does he admit when he’s wrong and apologizes?

Forgiveness
Does he show grace or forgiveness? This is an important habit to have because we need to be able to forgive others so that we can be forgiven by God.
In life, there are countless times that you need to be able to forgive others, especially in a relationship. Forgiveness is the number one piece of advice that my husband and I got before we got married.

Involved In Church
Is he involved in church? What does his friend group look like? Are his friends in church and do they have the same belief?
Going to church on Sundays is just the beginning. Does he go to church because that’s what his family has always done and it’s now a routine and nothing more?
Or does he truly enjoy and want to be at church every Sunday? How is his attitude towards being at church?

Family Guy
What does his family life look like? Does he love helping and being around his family?
Watch how he treats his parents, it says a lot about a person.
Before my husband and I got married I saw how he treated his parents, especially his mom. He loved and respected them.
The reason why it’s important to watch how they treat their parents is because, in most situations, his parents are who he will be the most comfortable with.
It gives you an insight into how he will treat you in the future when he gets comfortable.

Influences
What type of music does he listen to? What kind of shows or movies does he watch?
The things we listen to and watch have a bigger impact on us than most people think.
If you are listening to songs with sexual immortality, think about what constantly going through your mind.
Does he like clean music? Worship music?
One of the first things I noticed about my husband when we started dating is that he loves worship music. It was all he listened to and I loved it.
He didn’t care who was around, he would blare that worship music

Goals
Does he have goals? Is he a hard worker? What does he want for the future?
Is he driven? You should always be working on yourself to be more like Jesus every day.
A Christian should have goals. They should want to better themselves and they should be driven to live a life of purpose.
